"What's that Sound???"

This week in Science, we were learning about different types of Energy: Sound, Light, and Heat! We will continue to learn more about this topic next week!

We had our first "At Home Project" this week---to create something at home that would make sound!!

I was soo impressed with the creative ways our class made sound!! Each student presented their creation. Sharing what they used, how they made it, and showed us how it made sound!

Map Keys

This week in Social Studies, we learned about maps and map keys. We learned that a map helps us know where things are.

To make this fun and interesting, we created "Me  Maps!!!"

Together, we brainstormed things that could go on our Me Map. Then, we talked about how maps use symbols and a key so that we know what each symbol stands for.

Everyone did a great job on these!! :)

Decomposing!!

Today, in Math, we reviewed how to decompose numbers! We learned that decomposing means to split the number apart. Right now, we are learning to split the tens and the ones.

I gave everyone a sticky note with a number on it and then assigned different "jobs"

The first student chose a number and everyone else "decomposed" the number. Then the "checker" walked around to see how their table group did!

We rotaed through all the jobs so everyone got a chance to do each part! The students loved this activity!! Everyone was engaged and I was able to walk around and see how everyone was doing and reteach with those who were having a hard time.

Way to go 1st Graders!!!

Observable Properties

Today in Science, we are learning about "Observable Properties." First we brainstormed different things we can observe.

Next, I passed out a bunch of different balls to each table group. Our little first grade scientists used their 5 senses to observe and record different properties of the balls. We rotated to each table so we got make a lot of observations!

Then, I called out different descriptive words. We worked with our table groups to identify which ball at our table had that property....lightest, heaviest, bumpy, smooth, smallest, hardest, loudest, etc...

We concluded our lesson by each taking a ball, thinking of one GREAT property and sharing that with the class! :)

Reading Stamina Goal

We have been working so hard on reading our Stamina!

We reached our next goal of reading for 25 straight minutes!

So what was our reward???

We took our book boxes outside in this beautiful Fall(or is it still summer??) weather!!
